MediaCity’s popular open-air screen, Screen on the Docks, returns to the Waterside Steps this summer with a packed schedule offering something for all ages.

The free open-air screen will be showing everything from classic films such as Dirty Dancing and Forrest Gump, through to family favourites such as Wicked and Moana 2, plus popular sports such as the Women’s Euros. Visitors can also enjoy weekly podcast episodes from the ‘This is MediaCity’ podcast on the big screen.

The Screen will be operating from now until the end of September, with slots for family films such as Coco, Finding Nemo and The Lego Movie on weekdays from 11am, as well as afternoon screenings of cult favourite films such as Mean Girls, Mamma Mia and The Hunger Games.

Sports fans can also catch the Women’s Euro Semi Finals on the 22nd, 23rd and 27th July.

With the school holidays approaching, the Screen on the Docks is the perfect destination for families to enjoy a free cinema-screening by the water and keep the children entertained. With new beautiful planters, luscious greenery, colourful seating and deck chairs overlooking the docks added for this summer, the Waterside Steps provide a tranquil space for all the community to enjoy.

New for this year is also a beautiful artwork installation ‘Of Dreaming’ by Salford artists Mike and Sian, a bold three-dimensional piece which has been inspired by the hopes and dreams of Salford’s young people, as discovered during creative sessions at MediaCity’s We Invented the Weekendfestival in 2024. The artwork is the duo’s largest scale art instillation to date and has been designed as a physical platform to capture and embody those hopes and dreams for the future through colour, form and shape.

But that’s not all that’s new for the summer – Kargo on the Docks has returned with a fresh wave of local food partners including Afro Shack, Wok Bros, Sunrise Caribbean, Quiero Tacos and Habibs, plusbespoke artwork throughout by Salford-based creatives.

Over on the Piazza, art enthusiasts can step into a powerful new immersive art experience with: Stories – Brought To Life, a partnership between the National Portrait Gallery and Frameless, which brings the stories behind some of the UK’s most iconic portraits to life in a way never seen before. This unmissable immersive experience uses cutting-edge digital technology to reveal the lives of the people who have shaped British history and culture – from the Tudor era right up to today.

And that’s not all – visitors can take in the most famous working TV set in the world at the Coronation Street Experience or enjoy one of the shows on offer at Lowry, including Six, In The Night Garden Live and The Addams Family.
