Women’s cricket is taking centre stage this summer as it continues to break records and make history

Women’s cricket is taking centre stage this summer as it continues to break records and make history featuring in countless international tours, The Hundred and the Commonwealth Games for the very first time.

To celebrate this, on the night of the first women’s cricket game at the Commonwealth Games (Fri 29 July), Sixes Social Cricket in Manchester, the world’s first immersive cricketing experience, is partnering with an exciting and inclusive cricket campaign – We Got Game, to offer groups of women and girls the opportunity to play for free every Friday night this summer.

We Got Game is a positive and inspiring new platform, hosted on Instagram, designed to elevate the profile of and celebrate the women’s and girls’ game, creating space for a community of like-minded young women and girls to unite and share their passions both on and off the pitch.

In conjunction with We Got Game, Sixes will be launching free batting for groups of women and girls on Fridays across all Sixes venues in Manchester, Birmingham, Fulham, Fitzrovia and White City (launching in August) encouraging them to try their hand at cricket and showcase cricket as a sport for all.

The initiative will launch on Friday 29 July to coincide with the first cricket game of the 2022 Commonwealth Games and just before the second instalment of the smash-hit ‘The Hundred’ women’s competition kicks off on 11 August.

Calum Mackinnon, Co-Founder of Sixes, said, “We are beyond delighted to be partnering with the ECB on the We Got Game initiative. Cricket is for everyone and we want that to be reflected at our social cricket venues up and down the country.

We Got Game is perfectly timed in line with an exciting summer for women’s cricket, not only are we looking forward to seeing more women take to our nets, we can’t wait to tune in and watch the women’s cricket at this year’s Commonwealth Games and beyond.”

Ellie Threlkeld, Manchester Originals Wicketkeeper added, “Cricket is such a social sport and to be able to learn and improve your game whilst having fun with your friends is what the sport is all about.

We Got Game is creating a community of women and girls who are proud to share their passion for the game we love, giving us the freedom to express ourselves on and off the pitch. Opportunities like this are a great way to welcome more players into the fold!”
