Four police officers were injured in Manchester overnight, while responding to two separate domestic incidents
Three female officers suffered injuries while trying to arrest a suspect in relation to domestic offences – stalking and breach of a Domestic Abuse Protection Orders (DAPO) – in Cheetham Hill near the city centre last night at around 10:50pm.
Injuries included bite marks, scratches, a broken finger, multiple cuts and bruises, a swollen eye socket and cuts to the officers’ faces.
A man in his 40s was arrested and later detained under the Mental Health Act.
At around the same time at Palatine Road, Withington, an officer sustained a suspected broken cheekbone and injuries to his tongue after attending a domestic incident.
Two members of the public came to the assistance of the officer.
A 31-year-old man was arrested for a domestic-abuse related assault and assault of an emergency worker. He remains in custody for questioning.
Assistant Chief Constable Matt Boyle, GMP’s local policing lead, said: “The officers injured in these incidents are receiving support from our welfare team, and we are ensuring they have everything they need during their recovery.
“This is yet another reminder of the risks police officers face daily in their efforts to protect the public.
“Assaults on officers are never acceptable. Our officers routinely place themselves in harm’s way to safeguard others, and they deserve our full support and respect for the work they do.
“Responding to domestic incidents is a priority for GMP. These calls are often among the most emotionally charged and potentially dangerous situations our officers attend.
“We remain committed to protecting vulnerable victims, offering them the support they need, and ensuring their safety.
“Our officers will continue to respond with professionalism and compassion, even in the most challenging circumstances.”
