Fire crews from Bury, Whitefield, Blackley, Heywood and Rochdale were called to the blaze off Pimhole Road just before 10.00pm yesterday evening involving fifteen vehicles.

Firefighters swiftly tackled the incident, dividing the fire into two sectors with three hoses targeting the flames.

Bury, Oldham and Rochdale Borough Commander, Jason Rain, said: “By splitting the scene into two distinct areas of firefighting crews have got on top of the fire. It’s now a matter of managing the scene and in a steady and systematic manner extinguishing the flames.

“I want to praise crews from various fire stations who were all on the scene here in Bury moments after we received the call. I anticipate we will be here for some hours to come but the situation is under control.

“There is a fair amount of billowing smoke in the local area – I ask nearby residents to keep their windows and doors closed until they can be sure the incident is at an end.”
