Emergence is the touring company formed from MA dance students from the University of Salford and will return to Waterside.

Led by Artistic Director Joss Arnott and Programme Leader Deborah Milner, the students will come together to tour a quadruple bill of works created for and with, including three world premieres by choreographers Gosia Mielech, Vidya Patel and Kevin Finnan, and another chance to see company Artistic Director Joss Arnott’s epic work from 2021’s tour.

With three brand new commissioned works in the programme, Gaga choreographer Gosia Mielech’s raw, authentic and passionate piece explores the idea of totality and what it means to live life in a total way. Kevin Finnan, the artistic director of Motionhouse, presents a physically charged and seamless piece brought to life on stage capturing the virtuosity of the dancers. The third new work in the programme has been choreographed by Vidya Patel who has collaborated with the dancers to explore an exciting and new dance language through Kathak influenced movement and rhythms.

Joss Arnott’s Wild Shadows features music which has been specially commissioned from composer James Keane. He worked with the dancers to immerse them in his unique stylistic qualities and movement language, and collaborated with them on creative tasks to create the finished work. The epic, cinematic score combined with human rhythms give the piece an emotive thread which builds on Arnott’s concept of empowerment.

Speaking about the tour, Artistic Director Joss Arnott said, “I am delighted to be inviting three dynamic choreographers to make new works with the company for this year’s tour by Emergence. Gosia, Kevin and Vidya all have strong yet unique dance languages and I am certain that audiences will be enthralled by how the dancers have interpreted their vision.”

Emergence comes to Waterside on Thursday 26 May at 19:30
