MPs have voted to take control of the Commons agenda by 328 votes to 301 winning the first part of their bid to stop the UK leaving the EU on 31 October without a deal

Boris Johnson has now confirmed that he will table a motion under the Fixed Term Parliament Act to call for a general election which will be on the 15th October if as expected the House brings forward a bill tomorrow that would force Johnson to delay Brexit unless MPs back a new deal or vote for a no-deal exit.

Labour’s shadow Brexit Secretary Sir Keir Starmer says tonight’s vote is “a hugely important step in stopping Boris Johnson’s plan for a no-deal Brexit”.

Twenty one Tory MP’s voted against their party despite being threatened with removal of the Conservative whip.
