Dogs Trust Manchester is hoping National Grandparents Day this Sunday (6 October) will prove every dog really does have its day, by finding a forever home for its oldest resident.

Doodles is a 14-year-old Yorkshire Terrier Cross who had lived in the same home since being a puppy, but sadly a change in his family’s circumstances has found him looking for a new home where he can spend his twilight years.

Carol Margieson, Deputy Manager at Dogs Trust Manchester, says:

“It is especially sad when older dogs come into the centre but Doodles has coped really well with the changes he has been through, and is loving life in his foster home.

“Doodles isn’t a typical golden oldie. Despite his advancing years he is really lively and loves a walk. He also has a cheeky side to him – if you stop stroking him and he’d prefer you to carry on, he nudges your hand. So it’s safe to say he knows what he wants out of life!”

Doodles would like to be the only dog in his new home so he can lap up all the love and although he’d be happy to live with children over 14, he isn’t a fan of cats so he needs a feline-free home. After a nice walk he’s happy to be left home alone for a few hours for a snooze.

Carol adds:

“Because of their age our Golden Oldies are often overlooked and can spend a long time waiting for a new family, but there are so many advantages of having an older dog.

“They are often calmer and more relaxing to be around and when you rehome an older dog, what you see is what you get. With Doodles that’s a dog that loves his walks but likes to snuggle up on the sofa too. We are really hoping that by the time the nation celebrates grandparents, we are celebrating having found Doodles his ideal forever home.”

If you think Doodles could be the perfect match for you, as Doodles is in a foster home please call the centre on 0161 470 1042 to arrange to meet him. To find out more go to www.dogstrust.org.uk
