A cyclist is in hospital in a critical condition after a collision yesterday Wilbraham Road involving a car and two bicycles in the Whalley Range area heading to Chorlton-cum-Hardy.

The second cyclist has minor injuries

The driver of a black Audi A3, a 37-year-old, remained at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries and was later arrested and remains in custody for questioning.

GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident in the Whalley Range area to get in touch to help their investigation.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have footage, including dashcam, mobile phone or CCTV footage from the area in the moments before the collision took place.

PS Phil Shaw, of the SCIU, said: “We’re still working to piece together what happened on Sunday afternoon in what is a well-known and busy street.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the injured cyclists as one still remains in a critical condition.

“A thorough investigation has continued overnight and now we are keen to keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area yesterday around the time of the incident – or who may have footage that could end up being crucial to this investigation.”
