The Crystal Maze is coming to Manchester in the Spring and now it is returning to the TV.

Channel Four have announced that it has commissioned a 20-episode series of a revamped version of The Crystal Maze, which will be hosted by Richard Ayoade.

Each of the 20 episodes will be an hour long, and Channel 4 have said they are looking for members of the public to join teams for the game.

The series first appeared on TV in 1990 famously hosted by Richard Richard O’Brien and later Ed Tudor-Pole, regularly attracting audiences of Four Million viewers.

It returned to Channel 4 in October 2016 for a Stand Up To Cancer celebrity special and proved a hit with loyal fans and newcomers alike.

The series will be filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol, where a purpose built maze spanning over 30,000 square feet is being created by the original Crystal Maze designer, James Dillon.

Tom Beck, Head of Live & Events at Channel 4 said of the commission “The Stand Up To Cancer special was so brilliant and so successful that commissioning a series of The Crystal Maze was almost a no-brainer. And I couldn’t be more pleased and excited that Richard has agreed to become the new Maze Master – he’s an inspired choice.”

When it was announced back in the autumn that Little Lion Tours were bringing the game to Manchester’s Old Granada Studios back in the autumn, tickets literally flew off the shelves.

The experience has already launched with huge success in North London earlier this year.

The Manchester version is set to open in the Spring.
