The independent charity Crimestoppers is urging young people to speak up about knife crime. Through its youth service – Fearless.org – Crimestoppers empowers young people to share what they know about crime safely and anonymously without fear of being identified, questioned or having to go to court.
Gary Murray North West regional manager at the charity Crimestoppers said:
“When I meet parents who have tragically lost a child to knife crime, it’s heartbreaking to hear their stories and see the devastating impact on their families”
“No one should have to go through that pain and loss.
“Tragically, some young people believe carrying a knife will protect them, but in reality, it puts them in even greater danger.
“If you’re worried about someone carrying a knife, please contact Crimestoppers 100% anonymously online or by phone. Your information could save a life.”
Crimestoppers is focusing on education and prevention, providing information through Fearless.org to help young people understand the life-changing consequences of carrying a blade.
The campaign highlights how carrying a knife puts lives in danger, and how anyone – especially young people – can spot the signs and safely report what they know 100% anonymously.
Knife crime is linked to drug dealing, street gangs, and the exploitation of often vulnerable young people. Children and teens can be manipulated into carrying or hiding weapons for others, or pressured to use violence to “prove” themselves.
Together, we can break the cycle of violence. If you know something, say something – safely and anonymously.
