Manchester City Council’s planning committee have approved at the third time of asking a 33-storey tower on Port Street within the Ancoats development

Councillors rejected the proposals at the second time of asking because of its height which had exceeded the original masterplan by one storey.

The new application took a floor off and was agreed by seven votes to three after being recommended for approval.

Local residents had objected to the height of the building and the lack of affordable housing within the scheme which encompasses 451 apartments including a second eleven storey building off Great Ancoats Street

Lib Dem Councillor Alan Good said before this afternoon’s meeting that the plans still contain vastly inadequate provision for off-site affordable housing despite the projected tens of millions in profit.
