The Buxton Hitmen provide Wednesday night’s opposition at the National Speedway Stadium where the Belle Vue Colts are aiming to round off their calendar month with another dominant display.
The withdrawal of King’s Lynn from the National League and the subsequent elimination of their results mean the Cool Running Colts have now moved four points clear at the top of the table.
It’s a significant lead they hope to extend when their Derbyshire neighbours come to Manchester, themselves fresh off a big win over the Isle of Wight with ex-Colt Matt Williamson leading the way.
The home team has also been boosted by the news that skipper, Lee Payne, will rejoin the side after x-rays confirmed he suffered no breaks after crashing out at Berwick on Saturday.
Cool Running Colts No.7 Luke Woodhull said: “It’s fantastic to hear Lee will be back with us. He’s such a huge help and he always brings something special to the pits during the meeting.
“Even with Monday’s rain off, we’ve had a busy weekend and to still be at the top of the table is great. We want to make sure we build on that as much as possible on Wednesday.
“Buxton has got a new and improved side which is slightly different to the one we met at High Edge earlier this month and I’m sure they’ll present a much stronger challenge this time around.
“A few of their guys, like Tom Woolley and Matt Williamson, rode for Belle Vue last year and have a lot of experience of our track which they can share with the rest of their team so it’ll be interesting.
“But with the way we have been performing at home I’m confident we can deliver another big win and though Rob’s still out after his crash, the rest of us will step up and do what needs to be done.”
Tickets for Belle Vue’s National League clash with Buxton on May 31 are still available via the club’s official website www.bellevueaces.co.
