Greater Manchester’s Chief Constable, Sir Stephen Watson QPM, assisted with the arrest of a suspected shoplifter in Bury on Thursday afternoon.
Following a reported theft from a store on Bury New Road, where a security guard was allegedly assaulted, local officers were chasing the suspect on foot towards Sedgley Park where the Chief had just welcomed a new cohort of officers to GMP at a passing out parade.
Sir Stephen Watson QPM spotted the pursuit and got ahead of the suspect before detaining the man, as chasing officers quickly arrived to make his arrest.
Officers detained another man and a woman close by in connection with the incident. All three suspects – aged in their 30s – remain in custody on suspicion of theft.
