Labour is calling for train operator Transpennine Express to have its contract removed.

Labour’s shadow transport secretary Louise Haigh said the service had “never been worse”.

Wednesday saw more than 100 services cancelled across the network whilst yesterday saw another 73

At the moment it is being reported that the company is due to get an 8-year contract in May to provide services across the North and into Scotland

Haigh told the rail minister that it was time to strip Transpennine of its contract and bring it under the operator of last resort

Earlier this week it was reported that Ukraine is running a more reliable train service than some UK operators.

Ukrainian Railways shared its punctuality record for the first week of January, showing 95 per cent of trains departed on schedule and 96 per cent arrived on time too.

The latest data for UK services shows TransPennine Express (TPE) finished the period to November 12th with a ‘right time at destination’ figure of 41.1 per cent – meaning less than half of all trains were on time.
