The former victims Commissioner Vera Baird QC will review the case of a three women who were allegedly strip searched and abused by Greater Manchester Police

We reported yesterday that a Sky News investigation had uncovered the case of Zayna Iman, who alleges that she was drugged and sexually assaulted while being held in custody by Greater Manchester Police.

When concerned by flashbacks from her 40-hours in custody, Zayna asked for the footage of her detention, along with custody logs, using a subject access request – which can be made to obtain personal information held by an organisation

Now Mayor Andy Burnham has announced that he has instigated an investigation into the allegations

He told Sky News: “People watching this programme will rightly want to know that they will be fully, properly and independently investigated, and I can give people that assurance today. The main case Sky has covered is with the watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, and I will be overseeing things to ensure that everything is fully investigated.”
