Greater Manchester Fire fighters are currently tackling a blaze off Cheetham Hill Road close to the City Centre.

The blaze in a former mill on Southhall Street broke out just before 5.00am in the fourth storey of the building which contains household furnishings.

Ten fire engines, specialist vehicles and two hydraulic platforms are currently tackling the fire and the public are being warned to avoid the area if possible.

Firefighters are working hard to contain the fire and protect surrounding buildings. Part of the building has collapsed and crews are tackling the blaze from height and using three jets.

There are a number of road closures in place.
