A group of true brass pioneers is to play its final show of the year in Mossley.
Highly acclaimed 12-piece Hackney Colliery Band is rounding off 2023 in festive style at The Vale on Saturday 9 December.
Described by The Times as ‘reinventing the brass band format for the 21st century’, the outfit plays a genre-bending combination of brass, reeds, percussion and electronics.
Since the release of its eponymous debut album in 2011, the East London collective has blown its way into the public consciousness and according to BBC Radio 2 is one of the greatest live bands in the country.
From collaborations with the likes of Amy Winehouse and Madness to James Taylor and Beninese-French Grammy winner Angélique Kidjo, Hackney Colliery Band has turned  many music industry heavyweights on to its unique sound.

In 2012, the group played at the Closing Ceremony of the London Olympics and high energy sets followed at the MOBO, Brit and Mercury Awards and 2019 album Collaborations: Volume Onelaunched at a sold out show at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London.
Johnny Clifford, programming manager, The Vale said: “After two amazing years of regular live gigs at The Vale, we are seeing 2023 out on a high with Hackney Colliery Band.
“Mossley loves its brass and there’s been a brass band here since 1841, when the Mossley Temperance Band was formed – so we’re expecting an amazing reception.

“Get your party frock pressed, your dancing shoes on, and join us on the dance floor at our Xmas Party Special for some irrepressible brass bangers.”

Hackney Colliery Band is at The Vale, Vale Mill, Micklehurst Road, Mossley OL5 9JL on Saturday 9 December 7.30-11.30pm. Tickets are £15 (£12.50 concs) https://www.the-vale.co.uk/event/hackney-colliery-band/
