Labour leader Sir Kier Starmer has accused the Prime Minister of crossing the Rubicon with his “corrosive” approach to local restrictions.

During Prime Minister’s Questions,Starmer told Johnson he will “spell out what this means” for those who are “out of work or face significant pay cuts”.

“Their rent or mortgages wont be lower, and neither will their bills,” and called on Johnson stop dividing communities”, with his approach.

Sir Keir argues that Mr Johnson is willing to pay out £7,000 a day for consultants on Track and Trace and £43m for a Garden Bridge that was never built but “can’t find £5m for the people of Greater Manchester”.

Earlier asking about how areas would exit from Tier 3 saying that Sir Patrick Vallance has said Tier 3 alone isn’t enough to get the R-rate down.

“This goes to the heart of the issue in Greater Manchester and elsewhere because the widespread fear is that Tier 3 is the worst of all worlds… instead of being a solution, Tier 3 is a gateway to weeks and weeks – more likely months and months – of agony from which there is no likely exit,”
