If books and literature are your thing, then look no further than next week in Oldham with the return of the borough’s Bookmark festival.

Starting on the 22nd April, highlights include poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, accompanied by acclaimed musician John A Sampson, who together will be creating a unique collaboration harmonising verse and music into a lyrical muse.

The following night, one of Britain’s top selling authors, Jane Costello will be talking about her latest novel The Time of Our Lives and he life as an author.

On Friday 25th, award winning author Gaynor Arnold will talk about her ‘Victorian’ novels: Girl in a Blue Dress (inspired by the marriage of Charles Dickens and long-listed for both the Man Booker Prize and Orange Prize for Fiction) and After Such Kindness (an imaginative re-telling of the relationship between Lewis Carroll and Alice Liddell)

There are plenty of other events going on.Hidden Stories, Anjum Malik’s fascinating dramatic insight into ordinary people living unforeseen lives and a look into Charles Dicken’s Ghost stories.
