Berghaus, the iconic British outdoor clothing and equipment brand established in the North of England 60 years ago, will open the doors to its new Manchester Arndale store – its first ever standalone retail space in the North West – later this year.

Since its founding in 1966 by mountaineers Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison, Berghaus has been at the cutting edge of the outerwear technologies that get elite-level athletes and explorers to the most extraordinary places in the world, through the most challenging weather.

Fuelled by its belief that the outdoors belongs to everyone, the brand has also earned a diehard following with young consumers fuelled by the rise of gorp-core and athleisure.

The new 2,750 sq ft store at Manchester Arndale will mark Berghaus’ first brand store location in the UK, underlining the brand’s confidence in the scheme.

Berghaus joins a wave of recent brand commitments to Manchester Arndale, including Arc’teryx, Alo Yoga, Pro:Direct, GARAGE and Represent, further strengthening the destination’s position as a premier regional hub for fashion, sportswear and lifestyle retail.

Scott Linard, Portfolio Manager for M&G Real Estate, said: “Securing Berghaus for its first standalone store in the North West is another major endorsement of Manchester Arndale and the strength of our retail offer. The brand’s decision to open its first brand store UK location here reflects the confidence major retailers have in the destination and the continued demand we’re seeing for premium outdoor and sportswear brands.”
