BBC News has corrected a report, published on Sunday 24 August, which wrongly claimed that Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham said “flags are contentious … especially the flag of St George.”
This comment was actually made by a BBC radio presenter during an interview with the Mayor in which he was asked about the issue of people putting out St George flags
In the interview the Mayor had actually said
“I don’t think you need to start going out painting your community.
“You can obviously display a flag if that’s your choice but I don’t know, I do wonder about the times we’re living in, It’s like people are seeking confrontation.”
