FOUR of Belle Vue’s finest line up in tomorrow’s 2021 Sports Insure British Final at Manchester’s National Speedway Stadium, each hoping to be the man to be crowned British Champion.

Charles Wright, Worrall twins Stevie and Richie, and Dan Bewley are amongst the 16-strong rider field taking up this year’s challenge, with Bewley the favourite to take the spoils.

But they will come up against some stiff opposition, with their rivals holding between them no less than 14 British titles between them; Scott Nicholls aiming for his eighth crown.

2019 champion Charles Wright sat out of last year’s competition due to the ongoing issues of the pandemic but has made his intentions clear for this season’s staging.

He said: “I decided against competing last year, with the covid situation and lots of other things going on in my life, so I decided to sit it out and start afresh this year.

“It was an awesome feeling to win it in 2019. Everything just fell into place on the night, and even though I was excluded from one race I picked myself up. It was an unbelievable experience.

“I’ve been a bit inconsistent with my gating this season but I feel really good on the bike, and I think I’ve got just as good a shot as anyone of winning it again.”

Belle Vue No.1 Dan Bewley insists there is no added pressure on his shoulders ahead of the British Final on his home track, despite many pipping him as the favourite.

He said: “You do feel a little pressure to perform in front of your home crowd but that’s not something I try to pay too much attention to in the build-up.

“It’s a nice feeling to be thought of as the favourite and hopefully that is still the case come the end of the night, but there are no guarantees.

“There’s a lot of strong riders in this event and all of them do tend to step things up for this meeting. It won’t be easy but I’m up for the challenge and we’ll see how it goes.”
