The Garden Bar in Chorlton is thrilled that award-winning actor James Cartwright is stepping behind the decks as a special guest DJ this Friday 30 January.
Currently appearing as Coronation Street ‘villain’, Theo Silverton, James has built a varied career across television, film, radio and theatre. He has been a long-standing presence in BBC Radio 4’s The Archers, appeared in Downton Abbey, not forgetting the legendary Manchester cult film 24 Hour Party People. Alongside his screen and radio work, James is an award-winning theatre performer. His one-man show RAZ won the prestigious Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2015.
Away from acting, James is a also a huge music fan with a love of genre-spanning tunes rooted in soul, indie, funk and house. His appearance at The Garden Bar follows a hugely successful guest DJ night at the venue with Jeff Hordley — best known as Cain Dingle in Emmerdale — continuing a run of relaxed, music-led evenings that bring together familiar faces and local audiences.
Speaking ahead of the night, James said: “I’m really looking forward to swapping the Coronation Street cobbles for Chorlton’s Garden Bar. Coming from Chorley, I already know The Shed — which is run by the same family now looking after The Garden Bar — so it feels like a familiar and very welcome place to play. It’s a proper local venue with a great crowd, and nights like this are all about sharing music you love and creating a good atmosphere. I’ll be playing music that mean something to me and, hopefully, get a people up on their feet dancing!”
