The Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has said all schools in England should follow new government guidance and be phone-free for the entire school day.
In a letter to school leaders she wrote that Mobile phones have no place in schools and admitted the previous advice wasn’t clear enough.
The letter stresses that Pupils should not have access to phones during lessons, break times, or between lessons while Staff are also expected to not use phones in front of pupils
The regulator Ofsted will check schools are following the phone-ban
A recent study found that every 100 minutes of phone use per day led to a 6.3-point drop in student ranking – and when used during lessons, the effect doubled
