MyTrendyPhone presents some amazing tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your AirPods.

What’s in a Name? Renaming Your AirPods to Fit Your Persona

How to do it:

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth.
  • Tap the Info icon next to the AirPods’ name.
  • Select Name.
  • Edit the name and tap Done then Back.

It’s More Fun Together: Sharing Audio with Your Friends

Have you ever wanted to watch a film together with a friend on your iPad, but using the speakers doesn’t give the most satisfying cinematic experience?

Well, if your friend has AirPods, or even compatible Beats headphones, sharing the audio is a great alternative for devices with iOS 13 or later.

How to do it:

  • Open your friend’s AirPods near your iPhone or iPad.
  • On the card on your screen select Temporarily Share Audio.

This will share the audio of your device without linking their earbuds to your Apple ID. You can also set up audio sharing from the Control Centre.

Accessibility Support: Hearing Assistance for Parents

The Live Listen feature helps boost your hearing, useful in loud environments or when you need to hear from a distance. Parents can also use this feature as a makeshift baby monitor.

  • Go to Settings > Control Centre.
  • Tap Customize Controls.
  • Tap ‘+’ next to Hearing to add it to the Control Centre.

Use One Earbud: Improve Battery Life

You might think it’s strange to use just one earbud but consider how you normally use one ear to answer the phone. Setting microphone usage to Automatic means you can use just one earbud to answer calls and save battery life. It’s also ideal when you need to be aware of your surroundings.

Announce Calls: Be on your Best Behaviour

If you answer calls with a song when in a happy mood, or with rage when you’re sitting in a traffic jam on the M60, then this setting may save you from embarrassment in front of important callers. Your iPhone can announce the contact name over your AirPods, and even on your car’s Bluetooth system.

How to do it:

  • Go to Settings > Phone.
  • Tap Announce Calls.
  • Tap Headphones Only or Headphones & Car.

Siri, Read My Messages – Save My Time

Enjoy a hands-free experience if you are using an Apple device with iOS 13.2 or later.

How to do it:

  • Go to Settings > Notifications.
  • Turn ON Announce Messages with Siri.

You can also decide which messages you want Siri to read. This feature also works with Powerbeats Pro and Beats Solo Pro headphones.

Lost and Found: Finding a Lost AirPod

The Find My iPhone app can also be used to find lost AirPods, they just need to be connected to the app. To play sound on them, each individual earbud needs to be connected.

How to do it:

  • Open the Find My iPhone app.
  • Tap your AirPods’ name in the list.
  • The app will display their last known location and can also play a sound through them at full volume.

Better Control over the Controls

You can change the tap controls on your AirPods to manage music playback. You can even set the controls to differ depending on whether you use them with your iPhone or your Mac computer.

How to do it:

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth.
  • Tap the Info icon next to your AirPods’ name.
  • Tap the earbud you want to customise controls for and make the changes.
