Direct from their successful run at Edinburgh Fringe, RoguePlay Theatre, one of the UK’s leading aerial and physical theatre companies, bring their acclaimed brand-new solo show Mother Tree to Waterside, the thriving and vibrant arts venue in the heart of Sale in Trafford.

Mother Tree which visits the venue on Friday 16 September for the first time, is an 80-minute fast paced show about women and the struggles, guilt, and difficult maternal mental health patterns that motherhood comes with. Relishing the beautiful responsibilities of parenthood whilst laughing at the ridiculous.

This highly physical piece combining theatre, aerial silk, music and spoken word is written and performed by RoguePlay Theatre’s Artistic Director Kim Wildborne. Kim is a highly experienced Circus and Physical Theatre Director and performer whose work consistently investigates the combination of aerial movement, acting technique and textual narrative. She is Co-Founder of the West Midlands Circus & Creation Centre an industry-leading Circus training Centre & Creation Space. Kim recently performed at the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games watched by a global audience of billions and produces the annual TILT Festival, the largest aerial and physical theatre festival of its kind outside London.

Mother Tree is based on Kim’s own personal journey through motherhood. Kim said “During my sleepless nights, I kept a diary. A series of poetic scribblings. The show came from those very personal writings. Post-natal depression is not spoken about. Women get frightened to say anything in case it gets taken the wrong way and nobody tells you how hard it will be until it happens. For all these reasons, I wrote this show. But it isn’t just about all the difficult stuff. It counterbalances that with the beauty of having children and the amazing life experiences it brings.”

The show has deep spiritual undertones influenced by the work of Suzanne Simard, the world’s leading forest ecologist who forever changed how people view trees. Kim realised how similar this plurality is to the communication systems and growth patterns of forests and discovered how as a mother she was interconnected with nature more than she ever realised.

Mother Tree will take audiences through an emotional, powerful physical performance – be prepared to laugh and cry but most of all be prepared to use Mother Tree as a conduit for talking.
