Stockport community groups and organisations are celebrating again after receiving a share of £989,000 from the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

A total of 39 community projects in the town will benefit in this round of bids, which will empower our communities and celebrate all that Stockport has to offer, supporting the legacy of the borough’s Town of Culture programme.

Some of the projects that will receive funding are a street arts festival, a community sensory garden, celebrating 100 years of Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery, supporting events at Viaduct Park, investment in our District Centres and a creative writing and arts programme.

Under the Communities and Place strand, the UK Government and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority has committed a total of £2.4 million over three years to be distributed among projects throughout Stockport.

This latest phase of funding, which comes on the back of money being allocated to projects in September 2023, was awarded after a competitive bidding process, ensuring that the most impactful and transformative projects receive the support they need.

Stockport was announced as Greater Manchester Town of Culture for a period of 12 months in May 2023.

The Town of Culture programme proved to be popular with residents and visitors, with a host of events taking place, and some of this UKSPF funding will be distributed to Town of Culture legacy schemes.
