Around 500,000 Child Benefit claimants are yet to receive their monthly payment for June, due today, which some say has left them unable to pay for bills and facing being hit with late payment and/or overdraft fees.
Some payments may not be made until Wednesday according to reports
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has asked people not to get in touch while it “urgently” tries to fix the problem
People have been taking to social media to complain
One parent took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to add: “Can you please explain why thousands of people haven’t received their child benefit today? Me being one of them. You’ve left so many people in trouble, and before you say it no, it isn’t the banks fault!”
Another parent wrote: “We’re heavily reliant on the child benefit payment on a Monday – I’ve got nothing now for food for my child.”
