A 31-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder and both remain in custody for questioning after the death of a woman in Bury at the weekend

A 55-year-old woman was found unconscious after a disturbance at an address on Pear Avenue and she died in hospital yesterday

The two  people were initially arrested on suspicion of assault, but have since been re-arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody for questioning.

Officers are now appealing for anyone in the area at the time of assault, to come forward if they have information that can help.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Davis said: “This was a horrific, isolated attack that was carried out on a vulnerable 55-year-old and we have a number of lines of enquiry that we are currently following.

“We have two in custody but our investigation is still very much ongoing. We have increased, high visibility patrols in the community and they are there to speak to members of the community and answer questions they may have.

“We are now in a position to appeal for anyone who was in the area of Pear Avenue in Bury on Saturday night, between 7pm and 9.30pm, who may have any dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage to come forward.
