Renowned cartoonist Tony Husband is set to launch his latest exhibition at The Edge Theatre & Arts Centre in Manchester, as part of the Chorlton Arts Festival.

Tony is known for his ability to capture the absurdities and ironies of everyday life with his distinctive style, which has won him accolades and awards throughout his career. Characterised by their wit, warmth, and whimsy, Tony’s cartoons can make you smile, laugh out loud, or bring you to tears.

Visitors to The Edge Theatre & Arts Centre will have the opportunity to view Tony’s collection of iconic cartoons from Private Eye, the satirical magazine for which he has been a regular contributor since 1985.

Tony’s work for Private Eye centres around his comic strip, Yobs. As a young man, Tony was beaten up by a group of skinheads but ~ as a non-violent person ~ instead of retaliating he just wrote a comic strip about it. Yobs impressed the Private Eye editor Ian Hislop, by offering Tony a short run for the cartoon strip and it has continued for 38 years!

Tony’s collection of work will be on display in the Edge foyer from Friday 26 May to Saturday 19 August, with a private view/opening night event taking place on Thursday May 25th from 6.30pm-9pm. All of Tony’s cartoons will be for sale, and there will also be an opportunity to buy some of his books on the night, which he is happy to sign.

The launch event will be part of the Chorlton Arts Festival, a vibrant celebration of art and culture that takes place across this creative hub in South Manchester each year. Tony’s exhibition promises to be a highlight of the festival which will celebrate his incredible talent and creativity. As Tony said:

“I’m so proud to have been part of the Private Eye family for the last 38 years and thrilled that The Edge will be exhibiting a collection of cartoons from the magazine.

“The Edge is such a lovely venue and run by a wonderful team. I had a great time performing there in 2021 with my friend the poet Ian McMillan for our show A Cartoon History of Here, so it’s great to be back again.”
