Highfield Country Park is a 70-acre  area of open land, situated on the east side of Levenshulme,  that stretches to the east of Broom Avenue across to the rear of Reddish Golf Course and to the junction of Longford Road, Reddish and Nelstrop Road, Levenshulme.

The reserve is full of hidden trails, is a great place to get immersed in nature away from busy streets and traffic.

Once the site of a clay pit and brickworks, it was designated as a country park in the 1970s. Back then, Highfield Country Park was little more than a landfill site.

Much work was done to improve the quality of the natural landscape. And, in 2008, it received official designation as a local nature reserve – to make it a protected habitat for numerous animal and plant species.

That work has continued and, today, it’s a nature-rich environment with large areas left unmanicured to allow nature to thrive.

The success of the park owes much to the dedicated work of volunteers. Their recent work includes creating and maintaining forest trials and establishing wildlife ponds to support specific biodiversity habitats
