NEW jobs have been created at a popular town centre pub following a £50k project to revamp a disused area of its second floor.
Room 1780 will officially open at The Sun Inn on Sunday August 11, when Manchester United take on Chelsea in the Premier League.
The new venue – named in a nod to the year The Sun was built – has a stunning timber wall made up of thousands of tree trunk cross-sections and twigs.
It will be used as a function room, private dining venue, and also as an exclusive arena to show major sporting events on a pre-book only basis.
The Sun is owned by Lakeland Inns. Managing Director, Kirsty Mackenzie, said: “We’re really pleased with how Room 1780 has turned out.
“It offers something completely different to other areas of The Sun and now it is complete, I think the investment has been more than worth it.
“It is always great to be able to create new jobs for local people. And we are now on the lookout for an additional five members of the Lakeland Inns team to help ensure 1780 customers have a great experience.
“We’re really excited about our plans for major sporting events too and we expect the option of a guaranteed table, seats and drinks package to be well received.”
The Sun is a kaleidoscope of colour at the moment, as its annual floral displays which have become a yearly must-see feature, reach their peak.
The entire frontage of the pub is lined with cascading displays, while the beer garden is a haven of horticultural endeavour.
Lakeland Inns owns three pubs – The Sun, The Commodore in Grange and the Black Cock in Broughton along with Stringers Brewery and employs 70 people across its four sites.
