One man is in hospital and another in custody after a shooting in Miles Platting last night.

A 40-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds on Mellor Street just after 10pm.

He was taken to hospital, where he remains with injuries that are not thought to be life threatening.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody for questioning.

Enquiries into the incident and the surrounding circumstances remain ongoing. Increased patrols are in the area to reassure the community.

Detective Inspector Tony Platten of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “From what we know at this stage, this appears to be an isolated incident and we do not believe that there is any wider threat to people in the local area.

“With any incident involving guns, it is extremely worrying but I want to assure people that myself and my team of detectives have been working since the time the call came into us to try and find out exactly what happened and who is responsible.

“We do currently have someone in custody and will be questioning him throughout the day but please do not think that we have all the information that we need. If you know or saw something, please get in touch with us immediately.

“There are a number of ways that you can do this including anonymously. We can treat your information in the strictest of confidence but we need you to tell us what it is.”
