A 24-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries after being stabbed in Longsight this afternoon.

The offender fled the scene on North Grove by the junction with East Gove,but has been described as an African man in his late teens or early 20s, wearing a dark grey hooded top with dark coloured pants.

Officers searched the area but so far no arrests have been made.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Inspector Daniel Hadfield, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “A man remains in hospital this evening receiving emergency treatment for serious injuries to his leg and we’re doing all we can to find the man responsible.

“This attack happened at a busy time of day and we believe a number of people may have witnessed the incident.

“I would urge any witnesses or anyone with any information to get in touch as soon as possible.”
