Several Manchester charities that provide support for the homeless and those in need have received donations totalling £25,000 from the Amazon fulfilment centre and corporate office teams in Manchester to help them continue to support the local community during COVID-19.

The donation was made after members of the Amazon team nominated charities including Heywood FoodbankCoffee4CraigBigChangeMCR and Cyril Flint Befrienders to benefit from a special COVID-19 support initiative as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations across the UK.

Heywood Foodbank received £5,000 from the Amazon fulfilment centre in Manchester, while Coffee4Craig, BigChangeMCR and Cyril Flint Befrienders all received £5,000 each from Amazon’s corporate office in the Northern Quarter.

Coffe4Craig, Big Change MCR and Heywood Foodbank provide vital services for Manchester’s homeless community and people in crisis.

Each charity provides a range of services including access to food supplies, support with finding emergency accommodation and help for individuals who are trying to build independent lives away from the streets and plan to use the donations to continue their important work in the community.

Cyril Flint is an established befriending service that currently covers Trafford, Didsbury and Chorlton.

Speaking on the donation, Imani Change, Site Leader at the Amazon fulfilment centre in Manchester said:

“We’re proud to support organisations that are making a real difference and providing vital services across Manchester. Each charity is doing incredibly important work in our community.”

Amazon’s Manchester corporate office Site Lead, Matthew Redfearn, added:

“The staff and volunteers at these charities have been a great support to the people in Manchester during COVID-19 and we want to lend a helping hand with this donation.”

Alex King from BigChangeMCR said:

“It’s fantastic to receive this support from the Amazon team in the Northern Quarter. On behalf of everyone at BigChangeMCR, I’d like to thank Matthew and his team for this donation, which will be a big help in supporting our community as lockdown restrictions begin to ease.”

Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.

Throughout the pandemic, Amazon has teamed up with charity partner Magic Breakfast to help deliver more than three and a half million healthy breakfasts to disadvantaged children around the UK. The company has also provided students with free online STEM resources and supported virtual classrooms with no-cost resources from AWS.

Amazon established an on-site COVID-19 testing programme for front-line workers to help keep employees and customers safe during the pandemic. For more information on how Amazon is supporting the UK during COVID-19, click here.

Based in the iconic Hanover Building in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, Amazon’s corporate office in the city opened in January 2020, creating 600 jobs from software development engineers to solutions architects and finance analysts.
