Touchstones Rochdale is inviting expectant parents across Rochdale and the surrounding areas to take part in a new series of free ‘Blissful Bumps’ events.
Sessions have been designed linked to Greater Manchester’s Creative Health Strategy to offer a relaxing and supportive environment for soon-to-be mums, with creative activities focused on promoting wellbeing, building confidence and connecting with other mums-to-be.
The focus is on marginalised groups who are facing inequalities in health care, and a member from Rochdale Borough Council’s Early Years team will be on hand at each session to offer advice around pregnancy and local services.
The events are completely free to attend and involve making and creating something that promotes wellbeing, such as painting, crochet, printing or sewing.
The first session took place at Number One Riverside on Smith Street in Rochdale, with future events planned every fortnight between now and the end of September.
Bryan Beresford from the charity Your Trust, said: “Blissful Bumps is all about giving expectant mums a chance to relax, connect, and feel part of a supportive local community. By working closely with partners and creative practitioners, this new programme has been designed with time and care. Wellbeing starts before birth, and these free sessions are a brilliant way more people to invest in themselves and their future family.”
Erica Matthews from Creative Health adds: “Blissful Bumps is a partnership between the arts and the Perinatal Infant Mental Health Team.
“Each session aims to bring women together to share their experiences and feel an enhanced sense of wellbeing.”
Louise Burke, Strategic Lead Early Years & School Readiness at Rochdale Borough Council said: “We want mums-to-be to leave Blissful Bumps feeling confident, connected and supported. Our goal is to make sure they know about the Start for Life offer available in Rochdale, so they feel ready and reassured as they begin their parenting journey.”
