Your holiday baggage may get a little lighter now.

Library users who want a store of great holiday reads which won’t fill up their suitcase are invited to try Zinio. Zinio is a new free service which allows library members to read full digital versions of their favourite magazines on their computer, smartphone or tablet.

More than 100 different magazines are available, covering everything from food and travel to music and art.

The comprehensive range of titles includes, BBC Top Gear, Cosmopolitan, FourFourTwo, GT (Gay Times), Hello!, Ideal Home, Lonely Planet Traveller, You and Your Wedding

Users can check out an unlimited number of magazines – and keep them for as long as they want.

To get started, simply go to www.rbdigital.com/greatermanchester, create a new account with Zinio and enter your library card number.

Then you can browse the full selection of publications on offer and check out your chosen titles to read on your desktop computer.

Magazines must first be checked out through the website, but can then be downloaded onto a phone or tablet and read offline, via the Zinio for Libraries app, which is available for iPhone, iPad and Android.

Head of Libraries and Heritage at Salford Community Leisure, Sarah Spence, said: “This brilliant range of e-magazines is a great addition to the digital offer in our libraries. This is just another example of how we’re continually looking to improve the range and quality of our services and attract more users to our city’s libraries.”

Participating councils are: Manchester, Bury, Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford, plus Blackburn with Darwen
