Wythenshawe Interchange became Weatherfield Interchange recently, as ITV used the transport facility to film scenes for Coronation Street.
Passers-by in Wythenshawe may have caught a glimpse of two of the show’s most popular characters, Simon Barlow and Leanne Tilsley, brooding over leaving Weatherfield for good. Nick Tilsley, Leanne’s ex-husband, also appears in the emotional scene and fans are hopeful for a reunion.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), which operates the interchange, was delighted to facilitate ITV’s filming schedule, which took place outside of peak travel times to avoid disruptions to services.

Councillor Andrew Fender, Chair of the TfGM Committee, said: “It’s great that Coronation Street chose Wythenshawe Interchange as a location for filming. The show is iconic and is especially well-loved in Manchester. It’s a testament to the success of Wythenshawe Interchange that it was chosen as the location for a key scene in the soap.”

The filming took place in July with the scenes due to be aired on 22 August 2016.

29 July marked the one year anniversary since the opening of the £6million interchange and the actors in the soap took time out of their busy filming schedule to congratulate TfGM.
