Highways England will be starting work on installing a new barrier on Lancashire Hill bridge later this week.
The bridge in the centre of Stockport, crosses over the M60 motorway between junction 1 and junction 27.
Highways England will be replacing the existing barrier with a new 1.8m high steel barrier along both sides of the bridge.
The new barrier will greatly improve safety for both cyclists and pedestrians using the bridge.
Highways England plan to start work on August 16 and aim to complete these important safety improvements by mid-November 2021.
The work will take place in three phases.
Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained along Lancashire Hill throughout but cyclists will have to dismount when passing through the works.
At times Highways England will need to close the M60 and Lancashire Hill to motorists to ensure the safety of its workforce. Signed diversion routes will be in place for all closures.
The following bus services will be affected due to the works: 203 – Manchester to Stockport, 203N – Manchester to Stockport (night service), 7 – Ashton to Stockport, 7A – Ashton to Stockport and 7B – Ashton to Stockport.
