Local charity Wood Street Mission has been chosen by employees at Mondelēz International to receive a donation of £5,000.

Dedicated to supporting local families in need, the charity will be granted the substantial figure from The Cadbury Foundation, as part of its ‘Your Charity Your Choice’ scheme.

From practical help and assistance for local families, to offering children’s clothes, bedding, baby equipment, toys and books, Wood Street Mission provides invaluable services to locals across the Manchester and Salford region.

The independent charity was established in 1869 on Wood Street, Manchester and its free-of-charge services help thousands of children and their families every year. The £5,000 donation will help 125 children to access a brand-new school uniform, ensuring that they are equipped with the essentials they need for the academic year.

Each year, Mondelēz International’s UK employees are invited to nominate projects close to their hearts, with the final shortlisted charities voted for by the wider workforce.

Megan Gaffney, customer development manager at Mondelēz International, nominated the charity to receive the £5,000 bursary. Megan said: “Over the past five years, my family has been heavily involved with the incredible work that Wood Street Mission delivers.

“Being from Manchester, and knowing that more than a third of children in the city under the age of 16 live in poverty, I wanted to nominate the charity for the grant so they can continue offering the amazing services that they provide to those most in need.”

Des Lynch, manager at Wood Street Mission, commented: “Being awarded this donation from The Cadbury Foundation means so much to our charity. The generous contribution will help us to continue to provide living essentials for children and their families in the Manchester and Salford communities.”

The Cadbury Foundation was set up in 1935 in recognition of Richard and George Cadbury and their investment in the welfare of their employees and the local community. Across all Mondelēz International UK sites, £55,000 will be pledged for the ‘Your Charity Your Choice’ campaign.

Kelly Farrell, community affairs manager at Mondelēz International, said: “We’re extremely proud to be able to support the charities that are important to our employees through our ‘Your Charity Your Choice’ scheme.

“Wood Street Mission provides an invaluable service to children living in poverty and their families, and we’re delighted to know that with The Cadbury Foundation’s help, they can continue to provide vital help to the local community.”
