Hazel Grove Tory MP William Wragg has admitted involvement in a honeytrap sexting scandal targeting a minister and fellow MPs

Wragg who is standing down at the next election said he handed over personal phone numbers to a person he met on Grindr. Those colleagues were sent unsolicitous flirtatious messages from senders identifying themselves as ‘Charlie’ or ‘Abi’

The Times newspaper approached Wragg after speaking to victims who believed he was involved.

Wragg told the paper he was “so sorry” for providing colleagues’ phone numbers to someone he met online.

He says he did so because he was “scared” that the individual “had compromising things on me”.

Wragg said that he was  “manipulated” into handing over personal contact details for multiple MPs. “They would ask for people. I gave them some numbers, not all of them. I told him to stop,” he said.

There is speculation that the honeytrao was set up by Russian or Chinese spooks

Tory MP and staunch China hawk Bob Seely told Newsnight that the sting was “crude enough to be the Russians,” but that “the Chinese tend to be more sophisticated.”

There are calls for Wragg to stand down
