Cold days are arriving, so among other things, it’s time to replace the blankets and sheets on the bed with winter bedding. Today we’ll take a look at everything related to preparing the winter background for our sleep.
Try flannel sheets
Flannel bedding is one of the most popular bedding items for the winter season. It’s 100% cotton and at the same time, this fabric has a high grammage. Flannel bedding is pleasant to the touch, thanks to the higher yarn density, it doesn’t need ironing and retains heat beautifully.
Therefore, if you prefer natural fabrics and you usually sleep in cotton sheets on warm days, flannel will be your clear winner.
Crepe bedding is a very popular choice
The crepe bedding is the second very popular bedding for the winter months. Crepe bedding is very specific. After all, the fabric is unconventionally gathered and this gave the bedding its name. Not everyone likes crepe as a bedding material, even though it’s also 100% cotton.
However, those who like it look forward to cosying-up under a blanket with crepe sheets through the cold winter evenings.
Some people prefer synthetic fabrics for winter
Some synthetic fabrics are another common choice throughout the winter months. Polyester is generally the basis. Don’t be misled by the catchy names of these sheets – for example, microflannel can be misleading, which, unlike flannel sheets, is not made from cotton. Some of the others are microplush or microfibre. You can easily identify polyester bedding just by the prefix “micro”.
Sheets made of these fabrics – for example, microplush – is what sellers often offer on cold days. It’s pleasantly soft, you can “nestle” into it and warm your sleeping area beautifully.
Attention, it’s not just about the bedding!
Sheets alone can’t create wonders. It’s still a fairly thin piece of fabric. Blankets also have a job to do. We can’t forget the sheet and, of course, your pyjamas.
Same as outdoor winter clothing, layering pays off. So, if you sleep in warmer pyjamas and cover yourself with a warm duvet covered in, for example, flannel, you simply won’t feel cold. And if it is cold, you can place a warm terry sheet on the mattress.
What should the temperature be when you sleep at night?
Some people solve the winter in the bedroom by simply turning the heating up. Although, it’s natural for our body if we lie down to sleep in a room with a lower temperature. Therefore, the air temperature in your bedroom can range between 16 and 19 degrees Celsius in winter without problems. If you don’t feel comfortable in your bed at such temperatures, first try to make some changes in the above-mentioned elements – i.e., bedding, sheets, blankets, or wear warmer pyjamas. Your wallet will also be thankful in the long run. Any temperature increase with the help of heating should really be a last resort that you can save for days when you are suffering from a cold.
