Belle Vue debutant Ricky Wells is out to prove himself at the National Speedway Stadium and is relishing the “many new challenges” that await him in Manchester for the 2019 season.

USA international Wells has spent a good many years on some of the country’s smaller circuits and believes the National Speedway Stadium, in contrast, offers many new opportunities to learn.

He was frustrated by his opening efforts at Peterborough’s East of England Showground last Monday, where he failed to score from three rides, and is determined to bounce back at home.

He said: “You’ve only got to look at the likes of Greg Hancock as the perfect example of someone who continues to get better because he doesn’t stop learning. Every lap is another lesson.

“Coming here to Belle Vue is a real game-changer for me because it’s so different to what I’m used to at, say, Wolverhampton and Edinburgh. But I think that can be a very good thing.

“If you don’t push your boundaries and jump outside the box you’re never going to improve. This is a fast track, it’s open and will no doubt provide me with many new challenges to come.

“But I’ve always enjoyed coming here as an away rider, and to finally be on the home team is a tremendous honour. Belle Vue is a very famous club and I can’t wait to get started.”

Wells takes his place at No.4 in the Rentruck Aces new-look line-up when they welcome Peterborough to the National Speedway Stadium on Wednesday, April 10.
