The UK has recorded 1,290 further Covid deaths in the past 24 hours.The total is down on the figures of the past two days of 1,820 yesterday and 1,610 for Tuesday.

The rolling average for the past seven days is 1,224.

37,892 people tested positive, a rate of 448 per 100,000.Cases recorded in the UK since the start of the pandemic now total 3.54 million.

 4,973,248 have now been vaccinated with the first dose while 464,036 have had a second dose and are therefore fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile Northern Ireland’s coronavirus lockdown restrictions will be extended to 5 March and  there are suggestions the curbs could ultimately continue until Easter.
