Manchester Camerata will be making history on Sunday 27th April when it becomes the first orchestra to perform in the city’s stunning and much forgotten Wesleyan Chapel, Albert Hall on Peter Street

With its charismatic Music Director Gábor Takács-Nagy at the helm, Manchester Camerata will shine a light on this historical, hidden gem. As an orchestra which breathes new life into great classical music, so too will this unique afternoon’s concert breathe a brand new sound into this remarkable Grade II listed building.

Situated opposite the former Free Trade Hall, this Manchester haunt was hidden for over 40 years. It was resurrected in 2013 for Manchester International Festival, and restored into a stunning live music venue. An inspired venue choice for an inspiring orchestra.

The concert boasts a line up as exciting and diverse as the space itself. From Rodion Shchedrin’s magical and contemporary reworking of Bizet’s Carmen to the traditional delights of Mozart and Grieg’s Holberg Suite , a trademark Camerata programme designed to surprise and delight, is in store.

Joining the orchestra for an afternoon of music in this atmospheric Chapel is Christian Ihle Hadland. One of Norway’s most exciting young pianists, he is thrilled to perform with Manchester Camerata for its final Mozart concerto of the season, no.12, an early work performed here with just string orchestra.

The performance will conclude with a short and lively performance by virtuoso accordionist and winner of Lithuania’s Got Talent – Martynas Levickis. An amazing cross-over artist, whose latest album spans the music of Brahms and Verdi to Lady Gaga, Martynas will join the orchestra on stage for an encore featuring Gorka Hermosa Fragilissimo 7 and A Vivaldi Winter from Four Seasons.

A pre-concert talk at 2pm with our Sound and Music ‘Embedded’ Composer-in-Residence Laura Bowler Laura Bowler on Musical Theft – exploring how composers have adapted existing material, conventions and ideas – completes a signature and entertaining afternoon in the company of Manchester’s finest and most talented musicians.
