Tyrese Walker aged 22 of Peakdale Avenue, Crumpsall and John Dobson aged 55 of Delaunays Road, Crumpsall were sentenced at Manchester Crown Court to six years and five years, two months respectively for two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon and a further count of possessing a firearm without certificate and possessing prohibited ammunition without certificate.

The pair were spotted carrying guns on Ingelton Avenue/Cleveland Road, Manchester in August last year

Police sighted Walker who matched the description of one of the men leaving a nearby premises.

Walker was detained and a search of the premises was made during which officers found a holdall containing three firearms and numerous rounds of ammunition. Walker was subsequently arrested.

A review of CCTV in the area captured Dobson passing Walker the holdall before Walker and Dobson began to run along the street, Walker in possession of a handgun and Dobson in possession of a knife.

Forensic examinations of the seized items resulted in the discovery of both Walker and Dobson’s DNA on two of the firearms.

DI Roger Smethurst, of GMP’s Serious and Organised Crime Group, said: “Both Walker and Dobson provided a real threat to endanger life due to their actions on that day with the weapons in their possession.

“This result should reinforce public confidence in GMP’s response to incidents and commitment to preventing and reducing criminal behaviour to keep people safe and deliver outstanding service to communities.”
