A man and a woman have been arrested following reports of fraud at a funeral home in Ashton-under-Lyne this morning.

As part of a joint investigation by GMP and Trading Standards, 45-year-old man and a woman, aged 48, were arrested on suspicion of fraud, theft and preventing a lawful burial.

They remain in custody for questioning.

Detective Superintendent Debbie Dooley, of GMP’s Tameside District, said: “We are taking these reports very seriously, especially given the nature of the business and the potential sensitivities surrounding it.

“I appreciate this may cause some alarm in the community, but I would like to reassure people that we have launched a full investigation and we have a team of detectives dedicated to this case who are working alongside our partners in Trading Standards at Tameside Council.
