A 28-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of armed robbery after an armed robbery at a bank on Stockport Road in Levenshulme yesterday afternoon thanks to the help of police dog Tyson
Three men approached a security employee and demanded that he hand over the box he was carrying around 4.00pm yesterday
One of the offenders hit the victim with a crowbar, the shock of which meant the box fell out of his grip.
The offenders have then taken the box and made off in a car down Northmoor Road.
Police had already been called and responded immediately, assisted by the National Police Air Service helicopter.
Specialist officers were deployed and arrived at a woodland area where the offenders had escaped to.
Police dog Tyson was quickly at the scene and tracked through dense undergrowth, where he managed to locate the offenders.
Sergeant Danny Kabal of GMP’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, said: “This was a shocking incident where a security employee was violently attacked by three, brutal, offenders.
“Thankfully, our specialist team, including Tyson the police dog, responded immediately and as a result, we have been able to make two arrests.
“Tyson’s swift work shows how vital police dogs are in our fight against violent criminality.
“While we’ve made two arrests, our investigation continues and I’d ask anyone who has information that could help with our enquiries, to get in touch with us.”
