Two men have been arrested after an estimated £30,000 worth of drugs and firearms were seized from a property in Blackley.

Police from Challenger Manchester and UK Visas and Immigration visited a takeaway restaurant on Victoria Avenue yesterday.

A total of seven firearms were discovered along with a quantity of ammunition as part of a search of the business and a property attached to it.

Officers also seized suspected heroin and crack cocaine with an estimated street value of £30,000.

Two men – aged 51 and 40 – were arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply and possession of firearms. They remain in custody for questioning.

The search formed part of a joint operation which sees GMP working with UK Visas and Immigration to tackle organised crime, immigration offences and modern slavery in Greater Manchester.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Walker, from GMP’s City of Manchester team, said: “We will never stop in our fight against organised crime and by working and sharing information with partners such as UK Visas and Immigration, we are better equipped to do so.

“Thanks to this excellent partnership working we have now removed suspected class A drugs, which could have been destined for our streets, as well as firearms.
