A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after robbing a 54-year-old man in his own home.
The court heard how in April 2023, the victim was at home with a friend and the victim’s carer when the door knocked.
The victim opened the door and McDonagh – known to the victim – pushed through the door forcefully. The victim then began to run away from McDonagh and began to run up the stairs.
A few stairs up, the victim was grabbed with both hands by McDonagh and pulled back down the stairs and pushed the victim to the floor before stamping and kicking the victim.
McDonagh took £100 out of the victims’ pockets, and he and another male fled the scene leaving the victim with serious injuries included a femur which had been broken in half requiring surgery.
